Introducing our new Gallery of Indigenous Ceramics

The full-scale reimagining of our ground floor features the construction of the Gardiner’s first-ever gallery of Indigenous ceramics. Designed by architect Chris Cornelius (Oneida) of studio:indigenous and curated by the Gardiner’s inaugural curator of Indigenous Ceramics, Franchesca Hebert-Spence (Anishinaabe Sagkeeng First Nation), the gallery will hold ceramic belongings and stories from time immemorial to the present day.

The Gardiner Museum is thrilled to announce a Leadership Gift of $2.5 million from The Hilary and Galen Weston Foundation toward a full-scale transformation of the Gardiner’s ground floor. In recognition of this generous gift, the Museum’s lobby will be re-envisioned as The Hilary and Galen Weston Foundation Hall, the welcoming point and central axis of the Museum’s reimagined ground floor and the site of year-round presentations of contemporary ceramics, including community partnerships.

Gardiner Museum Curatorial Residency Research Trip: London & Cape Town

Earlier this spring, I joined the Gardiner Museum as the 2023 Curatorial Resident. Generously supported by the Rebanks Family, this residency program supports the next generation of curators with an opportunity to develop, research, and create a small-scale museum exhibition. My exhibition project mediates on themes of sustenance, embodied memory, and Afro-diasporic plant life stories through traditional and experimental African pottery forms and practices.
