Consciousness Blooms

Each year, clients from the Barbra Schlifer Commemorative Clinic participate in a unique trauma informed art therapy group for women survivors of child sexual abuse/incest, adult sexual assault, and intimate partner abuse. The women work with clay to produce a ceramic piece of art in reference to a common theme that is introduced in advance of their participation.

Suzanne Thomson, an art therapist, and Susan Low-Beer, a ceramic artist, facilitate the group. The women are directly involved in the design and installation of the art exhibit, each time offering the public a unique and compelling window to their reflections on violence against women and their hopes for healing.
