Description
Courtney Downman explores the balance between fragility and rigidity of glass that we often consider extremely fragile. Her signature blown and saw carved series begins as a smooth and translucent bubble that has been coloured and shaped. Once cooled, she carves into the glass using a water fed diamond saw. Carving each textured line, by cutting the glass away she reveals the final form of the piece. Once this is completed, Courtney sandblasts the piece to create a matte finish.
